Easter Sunday Setlist 2011

Trying to get back in the habit of blogging our sunday setlists and posting them over at the worship community's Sunday Setlists site. I've started using that resource a lot to see what songs other churches are doing so I figured it's only fair that I contribute to it.

Easter is the best of the day of the year to be a worship leader. Don't get me wrong, I'm pretty excited about it the rest of the 364 days of the year but on Easter I'm like a kid in the candy store. I couldn't wipe a smile off my face the whole service. We had things amped up a little more then normal, had a full worship team combined with a 30 person or so choir. I warned everyone that Easter was going to be a party, and party we did. We went from celebratory song to celebratory song without stopping. It was so much fun. If you worship leaders held back yesterday then you missed out. The tomb is empty and Christ is risen, we need to be overwhelmed with joy.

Here's the setlist, a little longer then the norm due to a couple different things but it felt appropriate to sing more on Easter.

We used the first half of a short video clip called Voices of the Cross that ended with Jesus in the tomb. I always like to start Easter Sunday with a quick reminder of Good Friday. Then we went from there:

Christ is Risen (Matt Maher)
Happy Day (Tim Hughes)
My Redeemer Lives (Hillsong)
Alive Forever Amen (Travis Cottrell)
Mighty to Save (Hillsong)

Communion Song: In Christ Alone (Keith & Kristyn Getty)

Our God/Shout Unto God (Chris Tomlin / Hillsong)

Offering Song: Lift Your Glad Voices (trad. hymn)

Sermon

Ministry Song:Love Came Down (Brian Johnson)
Closing Song: Jesus Saves (Tim Hughes)

We're gonna keep up the Easter theme from now until Pentecost. Lent/Easter/Pentecost is game time in the church calender, it's when I really try to hit those particular themes hard. We still focus on them throughout the year but for me I want to know that for at least these few months every year we're spending an extended time focusing and celebrating on the cross, the resurrection and the filling of the Holy Spirit and the call to go.

So thats what we did at Cannon yesterday, hope everyone had a great Easter!

The Big Day (or one of them at least)

While the court hearing last week didn't go the way that we wanted it to, George will be moving in with us tonight. Lord willing. For now we will be his foster parents. To adopt through the foster care system a child must live in the adoptive home for 6 months before the adoption can be finalized. As long as his parents rights are terminated - which is what was supposed to happen last week but was postponed due to a technicality - within those 6 months last weeks delay won't really effect us. So today our family goes from 3 to 4. From 1 child under 2 to 2. Oh boy :)

So needless to say we could use your prayers! Pray for us as we adjust to the changes in our family. With any change there's excitement about the new but at the same time a twinge of sadness that things aren't going to be the same. Pray for Kaylene and I as we learn how to be parents to two little ones and not just one. Pray that we have realistic expectations about everything. Pray for Kelsey and George as they adjust from being only children to now having to share the spotlight. Pray for my parents and sisters as they go from being parents and main care givers to being grandparents and aunts. Pray for them as there house is now a whole lot quieter and they deal with the pain of loss but also the happiness for us and George. There's a whole lot of change and adjusting for all of us. There's a lot of areas for Satan to work his lies and deception into our lives, but we know that God would have this to be a time of joy and life. Pray that we don't give Satan any footholds and give into despair.

Thank you so much for all you're support. The excitement you've shared with us and the encouragement you've been has been incredible and been much needed. And we still need it!

So... here we go!
