Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. And the LORD said to Satan, “The LORD rebuke you, O Satan! The LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is not this a brand plucked from the fire?” Now Joshua was standing before the angel, clothed with filthy garments. And the angel said to those who were standing before him, “Remove the filthy garments from him.” And to him he said, “Behold, I have taken your iniquity away from you, and I will clothe you with pure vestments.” And I said, “Let them put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD was standing by.(Zechariah 3:1-5 ESV)
If you are in Christ then you can put your name in the place of Joshua. If we were left on our own and Satan came to accuse he could find lots of ground to attack us. To point to our sins and give reason that we don't deserve to be called a child of God. But, thanks be to God, we aren't left on our own. When Satan accuses we don't have to try to outweigh our evil with our own righteousness, rather we have been given a righteousness that comes from Christ. New, pure, spotless garments. When Satan comes to accuse the Lord rebukes and says "this ones mine." Don't bother getting into an argument, don't allow Satan to bring you into the muck and mire of your past or even your current failures, keep your eyes fixated on Christ, our righteousness.
